The Nine Gates to the Plane of Baator
The Nine Gates to the Plane Of Baator is a collection of three books that all look identical. Each has a black leather binding with the lettering on the spine being printed in an unknown type of metal. Each book looks extremely old. The three books are scattered about the multiverse. Each book contains nine pictures depicting horrible scenes of fiends torturing individuals and a piece of an incantation. Each book has 3 real pictures and 6 fake ones. When the books have been collected, the owner can unlock the real incantation which will allow them to open a portal to any layer of Baator they wish, simply by naming it. With this book being so powerful, little is know of the whereabouts of each copy. It is believed that one resides in Asmodeus' palace on Nessus, but that may be propoganda as the Baatazu do not want anyone to search for the books, in case they open a gate to Nessus and lead an army of Celestials or Tanar'ri in. It is believed that the books themselves were written by Asmodeus as a gift for one of his most trusted generals as a means of escape from anywhere, but the general was slain and the books scattered to prevent them falling into the wrong hands. Of course, this is pure speculation. By: Matt BramleyImported from a previous version of Planewalker.com |

Extremely interesting! Purhaps some checks would be in order for someone to correctly operate the books (Will or Wis check, Decipher script or similar, etc). I think it should not be so easy for a mortal to undrstand the scipture written by a devil or a similar entity. Additionaly, a nasty curse could be incorporated for the disrespectful (=non-baatezu) who would dare to activate the power in the books.
