Sorceror: Bonus Known spells

Anonymous's picture

Just as a sorcerer's charisma grants bonus castable spells, so does it grant bonus known spells. For each point of the spellcaster's charisma modifier, she gains one additional known spell of each level -- beginning with 0 level -- until all the points are used.

For example, a 5th-level sorcerer with a 15 charisma normally knows 6 0-level spells, 4 1st-level spells, and 2 2nd-level spells, as well as being able to cast 6 0-level spells, 7 1st-level spells, and 5 2nd-level spells (bonus spells already added). With this variant rule, the sorcerer's known spells increase to 7 0-level spells, 5 1st-level spells, and 2 2nd-level spells. Because she has a +2 charisma modifier, she received 1 additional 0-level and 1st-level known spell. Why: While the bard's known spells outnumber the castable spells, allowing a greater selection, the reverse is true for the sorcerer.Pro: Increasing the spell selection for the sorcerer in this fashion greatly improves play opportunities and cuts down on repetitive combat (the sorcerer casts the same offensive spell over and over and over again, because that's all she knows).Con: I honestly don't see one, because the amount of castable spells remains consistent with the official rules. All this house rule does is increase the spell pool from which the sorcerer may choose.By: Christopher CampbellImported from a previous version of Planewalker.com
