Planar Effects on Divine Casters (2)
Variant rules for the effects of the planar environment over the Clerics' powers.Clerics lose one caster level per plane between the plane where they are and the home plane of their deity. They don't lose any prepared spells, but cast them with reduced efficiency.
For example, a 6th-level Cleric on Baator whose deity resides on Arcadia loses 2 caster levels. He will be able to cast all his prepared spells and can fill his regular slots normally, but will cast his spells as a 4th-level caster. He would still prepare his 3rd-level spells, for instance, but their effects, range, duration and save DCs would be defined as if he was a 4th-level Cleric.
No matter how far from his deity's home plane, a Cleric's caster level can never drops bellow 1st. So, Picking the same example, if our 6th-level Arcadian Cleric goes to the Abyss (where he would lose 7 caster levels), he functions as if he was a 1st-level spellcaster.
The caster level loss does not affect Domain spells. So, in our example, even if all other spells would be cast as if he was 4th-level, the domain spells of our Cleric would still be cast with his normal level. Also, the caster level loss does not affect the Cleric's ability to turn undead, nor any Granted Powers he has. Why: The rules for Clerics on the Planes of the 2nd Edition are clearly outdated, and need to be updated for 3E standards. Also, this rules present a some variation from those presented by James O'Rance, and I think complement those rules well. Pro: These rules reduce the difficulties imposed to Clerics by the previous rules, and help to keep the Cleric a viable PC choice on a planar campaign.Con: All rules limiting or restraining a class' powers and benefits reduces the players' interest in playing this or these classes.By: Luiz SimiImported from a previous version of Planewalker.com
