Frane the Watcher

Very little is known of this shadowy power. Some say Frane is a greater power, some that he is only a mortal man, while others theorize that he might not exist at all. But what outsiders think really doesn't matter, as the denizens of the outlying villages of the Outlands seem to have already made-up their minds on the matter. Already dozens of settlements and possibly hundreds of nomads in the wastes have declared Frane to be their watcher patron saint, an Outlands power that somehow protects them from outsiders that wish them harm, and power or not; somebody or 'something' appears to be carrying-out that function.

Raiders, bandits, even hordes of wayward demons are regularly found dead in the wastes, often in large groups, brutally butchered, stab wounds covering every inch of flesh. But that's not all that Frane seems to hunt, because even things like Devas have been found dead in the wastes with similar wounds, a sign that Frane is not only the waste's protector, but also its balancer. Anything that threatens the balance of the outlands, whether good or evil, is quickly and efficiently removed from the mix, many times with bloody results. So if you plan on travelling in the outlands, take heed of this warning, and believe the village elders when they say that Frane watches over their township. There's far too much at stake not to.

Pantheon: Planar
Portfolio: Outlands, deserts, survival, secrets
Alignment: True Neutral
Worshippers: Outland Villages
Incarnation: A shadowy figure wrapped in rags, a curved bone dagger in his hand, a rarely seen figure that appears to just 'disappear' into the sands in the blink of an eye.
Titles: The Watcher, The Defender, The Balancer, Patron of the Wastes
Rank: Greater Power
Priesthood:

Priests of Frane look very distinctive, but are not very easy to spot; for priests of Frane are masters of the wastes. Stealthy warriors of balance, the followers of Frane number in the scant hundreds, each nearly an avatar of Frane in his or her own right. It is primarily these followers that deliver Frane's unique brand of justice; bursting from the sands in ambush and butchering those that would threaten the outlands.

Indeed, to become a follower of Frane is an honor indeed, and one cannot join his ranks simply by worship alone. To join Frane's ranks, you must be chosen by Frane himself; taken in the night, trained, and then initiated. For it is only when you have proven your worth that Frane rewards you with his sacred bone-dagger of the chosen, his beast-hide armor, and only then that you recieve a piece of Frane himself, a piece of his power, of his essence. For only after you have become one of his avatars is it that you can TRULY walk the destert patron's path.

NOTE: 'priests' of Frane are usually NPCs.
