A tale is told about Shevastas, the thief that stole one of Zeus’ lightning bolts for Shekelor. After his great deed, he thundered through the forests with great magic given him by the arcane spellcaster, until he came to an unmapped grove in the road. He listened to the whispers of the nature spirits and then a quiet. He felt a presence among the trees and thought it to be one of Zeus’ guardians. He was ready to deal with them with his enchanted arsenal. Then he heard a song, as beautiful as the delphons’, but more pungent. Legend tells us that as he stood there confronting the 22 foot long wurm floating with grace among the trees as if it were the air itself, with colors only chaos could produce, two spiraling ivory horns causing ripples in his mind’s eye, all he could do before death's stoney gaze was smile, cry and utter a final prayer for his soul. CombatWhen they strike, they first sneak on the target creatures and use their singing, followed by their appearance. If they do not succeed at first, they may retreat and use spells and misdirection to separate and weaken opponents. When alone with its prey it will suddenly drop on it and constrict. Spells: Shooting star wurms can cast arcane spells from the bard list as 16th level bards (save DC 13 + spell level). Unearthly Appearance (Su): The wurm can evoke this ability at will. Those who look directly at it must succeed at a Will save (DC 21) or die. Upper planar shooting star wurms are heavenly beautiful, while lower planar ones are terrifyingly horrific. Unearthly Song (Su): Any creature who hears the shooting star’s song must succeed at a Will save (DC 21) or immediately change alignment to the same as the wurm’s (including undead, but not mindless creatures). Unwilling targets do not change alignment but are affected as by the insanity spell cast by a 16th level sorcerer. Those that resist cannot be affected by that wurm’s song again for a day. Non-fey that are exposed frequently to the wurm’s song eventually unlearn how to speak and think. It is said that those whose minds are destroyed by evil wurms return as allips and the ones affected by good ones become nature spirits. Improved Grab (Ex): To use this ability, the shooting star wurm must hit with its bite attack. If it gets a hold, it can constrict. Constrict (Ex): The wurm deals 2d8+10 points of damage with a successful grapple check against Huge or smaller creatures. Resistances (Ex): The wurms are linked intimately to its home plane’s seasons. In the winter it has cold and acid resistance 20, when the scales turn blue and white; in spring, its coloration varies into all colors of the spectrum according to the surrounding flowers, with electricity resistance 20 and poison immunity; in summertime the scales turn blurry red and green with electricity and fire resistance 20; fall turns it flaky and excited granting them poison and immunity to necromantic effects. Swift Movement (Su): Shooting stars move as if in an hypnotic trance and any ranged attack has a 30% miss chance. The wurms always move silently and are also immune to paralysis. Song Vulnerability (Ex): Born of song, the shooting stars get no saving throw to spells cast through song or in rhyme if the caster Perform check beats the wurm’s. Also, they are treated as frightened if the performer has more ranks in Perform than the wurm. Habitat/SocietyThe Outer Planes do strange things to its inhabitants, the distillation of song and rhyme is the apparent rhyme and reason to the wurm’s existence. Some stories say it was a sylph or nymph that began to stretch, others that the eladrin wrote verses over its scales and learned to fly and sing.They can be seen at lonely nights like shooting stars reaching for the stars or heeding their call. Perhaps the call of the immortals sleeping therein. Or maybe they are born and breed in them, for no one has ever seen two together. In Tir na Og, Amorgen makes reference to them as a sacred swam to awaken the dead and mourn the end of joy. These serpentine creatures strike silently with such precision that onlookers may believe it does not simply seek food, but is fueled by an evil intent. Sometimes it is not far from the truth, but usually the wurm prefers to feed from a night of stranger’s storytelling or a bard’s singing, especially an outsider’s.The eladrin usually warn travelers to engage in such activities when passing through their territory or do it themselves, so as not to tempt the wurm into devouring them.0EcologyWhen found in the Demogorgon’s domain, jungles of Carceri, petrified forests of Pandemonium or other evil planes they appear ragged and devilish, filled by hatred and are satisfied with negative expression, tales of personal horror and killings. Regardless of its home plane, it can be at times found in the company of other fey. In Arborea, the seelie welcome them with care and secrecy or rely on their abilities to protect their territories. Unseelie serve evil wurms out of fear and addictive desire for its song.
