The planar mimic is a larger more deadly cousin of the common mimic. It hides its body as an archway suitable to its environment, and then produces a soft blue-green glow imitating a portal.Although relatively intelligent the planar mimic is incapable of speaking although it understands common, infernal, abyssal, and celestial.0CombatThe planar mimic prefers to wait until victims come within 15 to 20 feet of its maw and then lash out with its tentacles.Improved Grab (Ex): If a planar mimic strikes a creature with two of its tentacles it grabs the creature and draws it 5 feet closer towards its maw every round. To break free a creature must make an opposed strength check, or an Escape Artist check (DC 27).Tentacle Reach (Ex): A strike foes up to 25 feet away.Swallow (Ex): If a creature is drawn into the planar mimic's mouth it is swallowed and takes 1d6+2 points of acid damage per round until it escapes. A creature can attempt to fight free with a successful grapple check, or cut its way out of the creatures stomach. To cut its way out the creature must use a small or tiny slashing weapon and do 15 points of damage (AC 14).Teleport (Sp): At will, as a free action, a planar mimic can use Teleport as a 12th level sorcerer if a battle is going badly. It will also use this ability to move around a battle field if its prey moves beyond its reach.Detect as Portal (Su): A planar mimic will always detect as a portal if magically scried. This ability gives a +15 to Bluff and Hide rolls if a creature attempts to physically identify the planar mimic (included in skills).0Habitat/SocietyThe planar mimic feeds on the living flesh of planar creatures. It is particularly fond of humanoids, although it will eat anything. It is intelligent enough to realize when a foe is far more powerful than it, although only most powerful of outsiders truly deter it from feeding. The planar mimic will use its teleport ability once it has cleared an area of all food sources, and given its exceptionally long digestive cycle, and extremely low metabolism this can take several millenia.Although they are solitary creatures two or more planar mimics can live together if a food source is plentiful. Otherwise they will fight and the loser will be consumed by the victor.0EcologyThe planar mimic exists where a even the remotest possiblity for portals to other planes could exist. They are particularly fond of nesting in the Hive in Sigil.0
