Keepers are greyish, black-clad humanoids created to protect some unknown secret. They are clearly unnatural, and though they try to mimic humanoid customs in order to "blend in", often fail. When they are subdued or killed, they quickly disentegrate into a black goo. Because of that, much of their true nature remains a mystery. CombatKeepers vary in tactics, but each group of them tends to stick to a single strategy. They'll often use their numbers to try and flank single opponents for sneak attacks, using their poison spit to reduce their foe's mobility and enhance their flanking attempts.Poison Spit (Ex): Keepers can spit a contact poison up to 20 ft. This requires a ranged attack on the part of the Keeper (+5 attack modifier). On a successful hit, the target must make a Fortitude save (DC 14) or be affected by an effect indentical to a Slow spell (as if cast by an 8th-level sorcerers).Sneak Attack (Ex): Keepers may sneak attack just as Rogues do. This attack is identical to the Rogue class feature, with a bonus of +2d6 damage. They may use this ability with their poison spit, but it does not recieve the bonus damage, of course.
Habitat/SocietyKeepers invariably work in groups of roughly three to six members, and often fall apart if seperated from their group. They appear to exist solely to carry out their mission, and they do not socialize in the strictest sense of the word. Much like constructs in some senses, they are single-minded and relentless.0
EcologyIt is unknown what keepers eat (if anything) or how they replenish their numbers. They seem exclusively male, and no "old" or "young" keepers have ever been spotted.
