The ill-tempered beasts known as "hopping rocks" or "stone frogs" pose a threat to the nomadic bariaur tribes that roam the Outlands, and the tribes occassionally mount hunting parties to thin the gronk's numbers. Gronks are huge, squat beasts with powerful hind legs, small forepaws, and a thundering croak. Their large heads boast intimidating mouths full of blunt fangs, small beady eyes, and a ridged carapace of rocky spikes. All gronks are nearly deaf, and extremely irritable. CombatGronks aren't subtle fighters - when they encounter a creature, gronks emit thundering croaks and hop towards the target to smash it to death with their spiked foreheads.Charge (Ex): When charging, a gronk inflicts 2d8+3 damage on a successful strike, and scores a threat on a natural roll of 19-20.Light Vulnerability (Ex): Bright visual displays will irritate a gronk. Gronks will attack any source of magical light (such as creatures affected by light spells). If in the area of spells such as dancing lights or pyrotechnics, the gronk will be driven into a frenzy of rage, attacking all creatures within the area of the spell (including other gronks) until dead.Sonic Resistance (Ex): Gronks gain a +4 racial bonus to saving throws against any sonic attack, and suffer only half damage on a failed save.Keen Senses (Ex): Gronks gain a +4 racial bonus to Wilderness Lore checks when tracking an opponent by smell. These bonus is NOT reflected in the scores above.Habitat/SocietyGronks are so ill-tempered that they have little tolerance even for their own kind. Within a week, members of a gronk herd will begin to turn on each other before separating and reforming into new herds. Gronks actually reproduce by smashing their carapaces together, exchanging rocky "buds" that fall into earth, sand or soil and grows into a tiny gronk (1 HD). Gronks are never seen to eat.Gronk carapaces have been used by wizards to create magical coverings for siege towers, battering rams, and shield walls, as well as heavy shields that provide +1 armour bonus against crushing and bludgeoning attacks, but weigh 50 pounds and possess an Armour Check Penalty -1 worse.Gronks are sometimes kept in pens by fiends, who remove bladderlike glands from along their necks and upper backs to treat them with resins and turn them into acid-filled grenades.0EcologyNone
