Diakka are large, flightless birdlike beasts native to the Three Glooms. There are two types, the Varath and Carcene. This entry relates to the shorter, slower and yet superior Carcene variety.Carcene Diakka have broad, squat vaguely human bodies and faces, though their limbs end in savage claws and their mouth takes the shape of a short curved bill. Their feathers are short and appear in many sickly colors that range from pea grean, through rust to slate gray. For more information, see the Planes of Conflict Monstrous Supplement (pg. 10-11). CombatSpell-like Abilities (Su): 1/day - weakness and ghost sounds; 2/day - jump. These abilities are as the spell cast by a 8th level sorcerer (DC 10 + spell level).Dance of Weakening (Sp): When four or more Diakka (of any type) encircle a foe, they can perform the dance of weakening. This hypnotic dance requires the diakka to screech and croak at their foes for at least four rounds. The victims are then affected as if by a ray of enfeeblement, with their strength scored lowered to 5 for 13 rounds. This power completely ignores Spell Resistance, but does allow a Will save (DC 14) to negate the effect.Habitat/SocietyDiakka live in flocks that are generally comprised of equal numbers of both varieties. These flocks are generally controlled by one dominant carcene, though there is no mutual respect or care amongst the other flock members. They will not jeopardize their own safety to protect another flock member. Occassionally, a diakka will become a guardian or servant to a night hag, this relationship though of benefit to both parties, is one of mutual hatred.0EcologyDiakka are cannibals, and they feed on the flesh of anything that is weaker than themselves, should it wander too close.
