Warriors are the imposing battle brigades of the Cautibuli nation. Larger than average with a shell width between 10-12 feet, the Warriors have the additional modification of two large and strong crab-like pincer claws to employ during skirmishes. Warriors often are the Hunters among the Cautibuli, killing fish, shrimp and other cephalopods for the community to feast upon. Their greatest priority is defense of Spyranium and the outlying colonies from the predations of outsiders. Enormous prehistoric variants of Sharks (untrainable by Lumes) roam Oceanus, as well as nasty and horrific intelligences. Strange forms of WereRays, rumored to be under the control of a Kraken, pose a continual threat; a battle fought on the waters of the Gates of the Moon in Ysgard was a major victory for the warriors, and for the time being the enemy has been successfuly repelled. Warriors tend to maintain Lumes as their closest contacts within the Cautibuli community, in part because their enchantment/illusion powers can be useful during times of war. CombatWarrior Cautibuli will attack with Pincers and Arms and attempt to draw opponents in for a bite attackBlushRage (Ex): At the moment a Warrior is reduced to a third of his hit points (15), the head of the Warrior Cautibuli flushes an angry red coloration as it enters into a BlushRage; it temporarily gains +8 to strength , +4 to Constitution and +4 to morale on Will Saves, but takes a –5 penalty to AC. Improved Grab (Ex): Used with a successful hit by a claw attack.Squeeze (Ex): A Warrior which gets a hold automatically deals claw damage, with an additional 1d6 of bludgeoning damage from the crushing force, each round the hold is maintained.

Amphibious (Ex): Cautibuli can survive out of water for 1 hour per two points of Constitution.Camouflage (Ex): The skin and shell of the Cautibuli are covered with small chromataphors that allow them to change color to match their surroundings in lit areas, so as to better hide or hunt.Damage Reduction (Su): All Cautibuli have Damage Reduction of 5/silver.Darkvision (Ex): Natives to the depths of Oceanus, all Cautibuli possess a form of Darkvision with a 100-foot range, detailing the Ocean in black and white. Cautibuli see normally when provided with a light source, whether natural, magical or put forth by their body luminescence. Immunities (Ex): Cautibuli are immune to electricity, paralysis, and poison.Jet (Ex): Cautibuli can jet backwards once every 5 rounds as a double move action, at a speed of 400 ft for most (100 ft for Defenders, 1000 ft for Spies).Resistances: Cautibuli have cold and fire resistance 10Spell Resistance (Ex): Cautibuli possess an SR 10Telepathy: Cautibuli have a limited form of Telepathy which they can use among themselves or to give simple directives to befriended creatures of the sea. Spies and Inquisitives may additionally communicate with sentient races not of Oceanus. Cautibuli also have a complex and formal visual language that includes arm/limb movements and coloration changes.Habitat/Society

GENERAL CAUTIBULI INFORMATION

The River Oceanus flows wide and deep in many places, and serves as the home to many strange creatures that swim in its currents. From Elysium's 3rd Layer of Thalasia with its waters passing by the Isles of the Blessed, to the Seas surrounding Selune's home at the Moon Gates of Ysgard, Oceanus' waters contain secret worlds in their twilight depths, often unknown to those on the surface. This is the home of the Cautibuli, bizarre and enigmatic Cephalopods of the deep waters of Oceanus.The origin of the race can be traced to a "Mother"-being known by the Cautibuli themselves as Wamburrah La, and to outside races simply as the Hungering Maws. An enormous, asexual shelled creature, it spawned the original 6 forms of the race, 3 "male" and 3 "female" genders, each with a special form and function. Wamburrah La still exists; its shell has a strange, pinwheel-like shape with 6 openings and chambers which spiral out from the center. The shell is some 4 miles across and 12 miles in circumference, with each chamber a focal point for one of the Cautibuli types to commincate with the Deity that lives in the center. This Great shell is the central point in the vast Oceanic City of Spyranium, capitol of the Cautibuli nation and located at the bottom of one of Ossa's deepest trenches in Arborea.Though varying in form across types and genders, there is a general body design the species utilizes—-a cuttlefish-like head with 8 arms surrounding the central beakmouth (2 of the arms are specialized feeders), a nautilus-like coiled shell housing much of the creature’s body, and two flipper-like appendages jutting out of spaces on the underside of the shell. Cautibuli possess emerald-green eyes and a water jet located beneath the mouth orifice. This basic design is altered in various ways across the species.The 6 kinds of Cautibuli have been labeled by those on the surface in accordance with their perceived function-—Warrior, Defender, Souls, Spy, Lumes, And Inquisitives. Sages who specialize in anatomy label the Warrior, Defender and Souls male, and the Spy, Lumes and Inquisitives the females. The goals of Cautibuli society are not well known, though the strong magic-using variants seem to direct the activities of the other three. It is rumored that the Inquisitives, Lumes and Souls try to curry the favor of the Hungering Maws in their own ways, sometimes leading to Chaotic and unstable alliances. Though an aquatic race, Cautibuli can survive a short time on land and there are stories of Inquisitive-designed land-going machines with internal water chambers used for surface exploring — as yet none of these machines has been captured for inspection/validation of these stories by humanoid authorities.0EcologyEach female kind is capable of breeding with 2 of the 3 male kinds, the third resulting in inviolable offspring. There are 6 short breeding seasons in Oceanus, each involving one kind of Cautibuli pairing.A Little Cautibuli Genetics: Spy=XX, Inquisitive=YY, Lume=ZZ, Soul=XY, Defender=YZ, Warrior=XZ.
