Use of Wizards of the Coast's Intellectual Property on Youtube

Some time back, I asked a couple of you for permission to draw upon your terrific fiction for a script. I want to thank you kind folks again for your replies!

But.

I've been into D&D for so long, I hardly stopped to consider the breaches of copyright I'd be perpetrating via a monetized Youtube miniseries. I'm really more into the old system, but that's moot since WotC certainly own the rights to that, too.

What to do, what to do...

I guess I could just contrive other planes, but these are sort of dear to my heart.

Anybody have any thoughts?

The keyword here is

The keyword here is "monetized." WotC will put up with a lot by way of fan works, but the instant you start taking money for it the issue becomes more serious.

Honestly, I would reach out to WotC and ask for their opinion on fan works using old, niche material, which would be monetized mainly via YouTube ads. I would emphasize that it's likely to be a minimal amount of money and that you're doing it because you love the setting. Make sure to mention that all acknowledgements they request would be cheerfully displayed within the videos. Ask if it's okay to proceed. If they slam the door on it, I would take that as final.

Good luck!
